Repair at Scale - A workshop for Consumer Electronics

Review of our workshop - CiCEL 2.0

Driving the Circular Transformation: Innovating for a Repair-Oriented Future

On February 11 and 12, industry practioners from the consumer electronics industry came together to develop scalable solutions for the circular economy. Two days of intensive discussions, innovative ideas, and concrete solutions – all with the aim of making the circular economy fit for the future.

Our structured process

Phase 0 – Understanding the challenge – Inspecting the problem space and the specific pain points of different actors along the value chain
Phase 1 – Opening the Solution Space – Understanding challenges, engaging stakeholders, and developing first solution ideas
Phase 2 – Refining the Solution Idea – Deepening concepts, using the wisdom of the crowd and preparing prototypes
Phase 3 – Getting Things Done – Defining collaboration models and concrete  implementation

Our Key Learnings

  • Data sharing over the value chain is only an asset if everyone is involved. Putting the business value in the core of our solution drives the change!
  • Helping customers to decide for the next best step for their device will become a standard in the future. Offering the right information in a suitable format is key here.
  • AI & robotics offer enormous potential for automating diagnostics, disassembly, and repair processes. Here lies great value to support with tailored instructions and automation of time intense process steps.
  • There is a lot of value in decluttering. Smart platforms and reverse logistics optimization can help to find value in electronics hidden in the basements and drawers of end-consumers.

Thank You – Next Steps Ahead

The developed solutions now move into working groups for further refinement. Next milestone: Finalizing collaboration models and launching pilot projects!

The atmosphere over the two days was fantastic – full of energy and inspiration. Stakeholders from across consumer electronics industry – manufacturers, retailers, service providers, recyclers, repair service providers and circular tech startups – came together, bringing diverse perspectives and strong collaboration to help advance the repair sector.

A big thank you to our program partners Foxway, Infineon, MediaMarkt/Saturn, Neew Ventures, Rebuy, Remondis, and Otto Group, as well as to all participants for the inspiring exchange. We look forward to the next steps!
